"Germanizer" and Counter-Terrorism Calendar

Anybody interested in "Germanizing"? Still need a calendar for 2007? The German and American taxpayers can help you out:
The blog German Impressions writes about the weird DW World website "Germanizer":
"Ever wonder what it's like to be German? Don't compromise - Germanize!" That’s the strange slogan of the Germanizer. Although the site appears flashy like a commercial, it offers some funny stuff like "The Basic German Test". After passing the test, you can join "The Club", upload pictures and take part in a raffle…
The U.S. National Counterterrorism Center has published a calendar, which you can download as a pdf file (15 MB, 142 pages):
This edition, the largest since the Calendar first appeared in a daily planner format in 2003, contains many features across the full range of terrorism-related issues: terrorist groups, wanted terrorists, and technical pages on various threat-related issues. The Calendar marks dates according to the Gregorian and Islamic calendars, and contains significant dates in terrorism history as well as dates that terrorists may believe are important when planning "commemoration-style" attacks. The CT Calendar is designed for anyone concerned with terrorism or threat: law enforcement, intelligence, military, security personnel, contingency planners, or simply citizens concerned by terrorist threats. The Calendar is oriented primarily to readers in the United States, but we hope that we have also made it useful for citizens of other countries.
Thanks to Duck of Minerva for recommending the calendar.

I like this calendar much better than the "Germanizer." I am probably too German to appreciate this humor and too much of "24" fan. In a few hours Jack Bauer returns from China to save the world for the sixth time on American television, while German TV just started to show the fifth season of the fictional "Counterterrorism Unit" at work. To quote Jack, Damned! We have to wait another year.

That "Germanizer" calendar was great! I loved the test..the sound effects were a bit much at 7:00 am, but nonetheless it was funny as hell. Ahh...yea, "24". Did you see Jack Baur play vampire in order to escape from the terrorists? I sure didn't see that one coming!

I can't watch the sixth season in Germany. German TV just started with the fifth season... The TV stations have some shows online, but only for users based in the US. Users from outside the US are blocked from watching. Have you or anybody else seen "Jericho" about life in a small town in Kansas after nuclear war? Does this series have an impact on political debates like 24?

Pinkerton on :

I've never even heard of "Jericho", however, I don't watch as much tv as some do. I have a few favorites but I'm not aware of a lot of the new programming. "24" has been around for awhile and my son got me hooked on it in the 4th season. I promise not to reveal any more of the new season, I don't wan't to ruin it for you! To be honest, I'm pretty surprised that the Fox Channel would air a show like "24" that seems to criticize our current government. Being the station of "Fox New" or "Faux News" as some of us call it, "24" is a program that doesn't fit their usual agenda of Bush propaganda. I'm not sure if shows like that "Jericho" will make much of an impact. It seems to me that Americans have become so desensitized to all that is going on in our country and with our government. When you are being hit 24/7 with the corruption, lies and over zealous right wingers, many tend to just shut down and ignore it.

Speaking of terrorism: George W. Bush committed hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism (indicated in my blog). George W. Bush did in fact commit innumerable hate crimes. And I do solemnly swear by Almighty God that George W. Bush committed other hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism which I am not at liberty to mention. Many people know what Bush did. And many people will know what Bush did—even to the end of the world. Bush was absolute evil. Bush is now like a fugitive from justice. Bush is a psychological prisoner. Bush has a lot to worry about. Bush can technically be prosecuted for hate crimes at any time. In any case, Bush will go down in history in infamy. BUSH IS THE WORST PRESIDENT IN U.S. HISTORY” BLOG OF ANDREW YU-JEN WANG ______________________ I am not sure where I had read it before, but anyway, it is a linguistically excellent statement, and it goes kind of like this: “If only it were possible to ban invention that bottled up memory so it never got stale and faded.” Oh wait—off of the top of my head—I think the quotation came from my Lower Merion High School yearbook.
