CIA Recommendations for Sustaining West European Support for ISAF

WikiLeaks (HT: Marie-Claude) has published what it calls a Special Memorandum by the Central Intelligence Agency's Red Cell. The document argues that after the fall of the Dutch government "counting on apathy might not be enough," because "indifference might turn into active hostility if spring and summer fighting results in an upsurge in military or Afghan civilian casualties." Unfortunately, the recommendations for shoring up popular support are not as exciting as you would expect from a classified and leaked document. Some examples:

* Some German opposition to ISAF might be muted by proof of progress on the ground, warnings about the potential consequences for Germany of a defeat, and reassurances that Germany is a
valued partner in a necessary NATO-led mission.
* Emphasis on the mission's multilateral and humanitarian aspects could help ease Germans' concerns about waging any kind of war while appealing to their desire to support multilateral efforts.
* Appeals by President Obama and Afghan Women might gain traction.

There is one great caveat to this breathless document in that the Red Cell is made up of people from a variety of backgrounds to offer alternative ideas on handling of various scenarios. They are invited and paid an honorarium to meet for a day or weekend to arrive at some new and hopefully better way to deal with, in this case European attitudes, hypotheticals. And that they are gathered not by the CIA but by Homeland Security. Some obviously seeing plots everyhwere immediately start pointing fingers while others regard such documents as prudent brainstorming. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A50534-2004Jun17.html

"Some obviously seeing plots everyhwere immediately start pointing fingers while others regard such documents as prudent brainstorming." Who that ? not from your CIA guis of course ! eh, not funny to read sumthin that doesn't correspond to your official gospel LMAO Dance with the wolves, lalalalère !

Pat Patterson on :

Are you going to provide a counter argument with some different information or simply natter on about hurt feelings and how the CIA, which was not involved here, is the cause of every evil in the world including bombing the Greenpeace Warrior?

Marie Claude on :

tiens, on veut noyer le poisson avec de la rhétorique... boooh !

Joe Noory on :

But the non-transparent "rhetoric" of the Taliban, who manage to seed patently fake stories of the "attacks on wedding celebrations", over, and over, and over, which is taken by the press without question is somehow okay... ...and a seminar at the CIA openly discussing how to get the support that will keep these clowns from helping al Queda set off bombs in Europe isn't? Hunh? Are you going to give us one of those reversals with being cool about the Russians doing the same thing, albeit more brutally, like the pathetic FDStards who are more in love with the image of "russian muscular whiteness" than politcal reality?

Marie Claude on :

so if you make the questions and the answers, why bothering to comment after you

"warnings about the potential consequences for Germany of a defeat, " Such as? I can't think of one, not one.

Marie Claude on :

"German Easter rallies decry Afghanistan killings" uh a guess, CIA will have a hard job to undertake LMAO http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=122374&sectionid=351020604

Pat Patterson on :

Wow, over two thousand demonstrators from all of Germany. With such small numbers the way the CIA will handle it will be to simply give Green Cards to anyone of the demonstrators to jump the queue and come directly to America without having to wait for decades.

Marie Claude on :

uh, like for those http://www.rue89.com/justin-blog/cia-et-banlieues-francaises-decryptage-dune-info-choc

Pat Patterson on :

Did you even bother to read past the first paragraph and find that the author basically says that not only the Americans but the French and Germans do the same thing? BTW, when someone calls you feisty in the US that basically means they expect the same response regardless of the question. In other words a crank.

Marie Claude on :

but you carry on reading it LMAO

http://www.countercurrents.org/mithiborwala020410.htm merdum, someone is evocating CIA again ! uh, how would you label this info ? far-rightist ? far-leftist ? socialist ? communist ? islamist ?.....

Pat Patterson on :

I wouldn't label that opinion piece at all as it didn't provide one single fact to prove his argument. Plus whatever he was trying to prove is lost in a weird passive/aggressive stance towards the US. Either we are hopeless clods that trample through the world ignoring world opinion or masterminds of clandestine war that can get its proxies to carry out false flag operations and never get caught.

Marie Claude on :

depends on which side you stand, that allows you to have the appreciation you want

Joe Noory on :

I don't knwo about their "Mossad-CIA-Saudi" assignment of responsibility for the recent terror attacks in Moscow, when Chechen Islamists CLAIMED RESPONSIBILITY. It's characteristic of the type of opinionated trash you bring up and claim to be fact. To give you a sense of your source, one of their typical pieces is titled "It’s hardly surprising that some of the most obsessive critics of 9/11 “conspiracy theories” have ties to Israel." Much of it is "trooferism" and Jew-obsessed in the exact same self-deluding manner as people did in the 1930s, 1950s, etc., etc., etc. Like a circus act, the same old trick seems to work on a new generation of gullible, vulnurable people. Using the search term "zionist" on their site gives you 520 hits out of approximately 3000 articles. It occupies about 1/6th of their obsessive energy. It also reminds me of the recent wave of anti-US/anti-jew/anti-the-usual trash that was left in the comments at No Pasaran over the past few days by someone who changes their pseudo, who takes a particular interest in hating us personally, and thinking that we should silence ourselves. The moniker is "I was relevant in 2005" from IP address 91.109.185.54 (Wanadoo UK), and depicted the usual obsessive ignorance of the US, say, for example, not understanding that the Surgeon General is not someone simply choosing on thei rown to dress up in a uniform, and play soldier, etc., etc., etc.
