Atlantic Review ::Global Rights: Initiative Against Trafficking in PersonsUS Fulbright Alumna Ann Jordan and Spanish Fulbright Alumna Beatriz Fernandez Carrillo work for the Initiative Against Trafficking in Persons, which is part of Global Rights:
Trafficking in persons constitutes today one of the most serious violations of human rights. Human trafficking not only causes unspeakable abuses and suffering, it also jeopardizes the development of entire generations. While most people believe that slavery belongs to history, millions of people still live under slavery conditions. The Global Rights Initiative Against Trafficking in Persons contributes to build capacity of civil society organizations in implementing human rights – based approaches to anti-trafficking initiatives. During 2006, we will focus on creating partnerships with organizations working for the promotion of human rights, particularly the rights of women, children and migrants, who are vulnerable to being trafficked in Central America and Mexico. We aspire to increase the knowledge and awareness of civil society groups on this issue as we provide them with effective tools and resources. The Initiative Against Trafficking in Persons has created a resource library in English and Spanish. Ann Jordan is the Director of the Initiative Against Trafficking in Persons. She is also a founding coordinator of the Freedom Network (USA). Ms. Jordan was a Fulbright Scholar and has worked as a law professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Beatriz Fernandez is Program Associate of the Initiative Against Trafficking in Persons. She holds a Master’s Degree in International Legal Studies from American University Washington College of Law and was a Fulbright scholar 2004-2005. We welcome your support and ideas.
